Unlocking the Secrets to a Younger Biological Age: My Personal Journey
Unlocking the Secrets to a Younger Biological Age: My Journey & The Blue Zone Lifestyle
As someone who's passionate about health and longevity, I've been on a casual, but nonetheless fascinating journey to lower my biological age. Thanks to regular testing with Function Health every six months, I've been able to track my progress and make informed decisions about my lifestyle. Today, I'm currently 16.1 years younger than my actual age – a testament, I believe, to the power of balanced living and intentional choices, without sacrificing the good life.
The Function Health Advantage
Function Health has been an invaluable tool in my quest for optimal health (no, this is not a sponsored post). Every year, I receive two comprehensive rounds of testing: an initial assessment with 105 lab tests, followed by a 60+ test follow-up three to six months later. This thorough approach provides me with a detailed snapshot of my health, including my biological age – a metric that indicates the quality and rate of aging on a genetic, cellular, and molecular level.
My Balanced Approach to Longevity Movement: The Blue Zone Way
A cornerstone of my routine is my Movement for Blue Zone living classes. These classes are inspired by the lifestyles of the world's longest-lived populations and focus on natural, functional movements that keeps my body mobile, strong and balanced. All my Movement For Blue Zone Classes are available with my membership:
Additionally, I enjoy hiking for cardio, which not only boosts my physical health but also allows me to connect with nature and de-stress.
Nutrition: Moderation is Key
I love good food and what I have concluded is that that balance is crucial. I've eliminated soda and fruit juices from my diet because it is a sugar injection with no purpose. I have also limited my sugar and alcohol intake to only a few times a week. I don't believe in deprivation. I still enjoy dessert and love a cocktail or glass of wine, just not every day. You can have your cake and eat it too – in moderation, of course!
Sleep and Happiness: The Often Overlooked Pillars
Quality sleep and overall life satisfaction play a huge role in biological aging. I prioritize getting enough restful sleep each night and actively work on maintaining a positive outlook and finding joy in my daily life. If I am stressed, I’ll prioritize meditation to regulate my cortisol levels. These factors contribute significantly to reducing stress and promoting cellular health.
The Results Speak for Themselves
By adhering to these principles and regularly monitoring my progress with Function Health, I've managed to achieve a biological age that's 16.1 years younger than my chronological age. This isn't just a number – it reflects a reduced risk of age-related diseases and an increased likelihood of a longer, healthier life.
Your Journey to a Younger You
My experience shows that lowering your biological age is achievable through consistent, balanced efforts, not extreme lifestyle changes. Whether it's through Blue Zone-inspired movement, mindful eating, quality sleep, or simply cultivating happiness, small changes can lead to significant results. Remember, it's never too late to start your journey towards a younger, healthier you.
